Nick Sandow is an American character actor, writer, producer, and director who was born on August 3, 1966, in the Bronx, New York City, New York. Of Italian descent, he grew up in the Van Nest neighborhood of the Bronx and later moved to Manhattan to study acting at the William Esper Studio and work in theater. Sandow made his television debut in an episode of Law and Order in 1992, working as a bartender while taking small acting roles in New York City. He is best known for his role as Joe Caputo in the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black, which aired from 2013 to 2019. His film credits include Grind in 1997 and A Brooklyn State of Mind in 1998.
