Kate Noelle Holmes is an American actress and director born on December 18, 1978, in Toledo, Ohio. She is the daughter of Kathleen Ann, a philanthropist, and Martin Joseph Holmes, Sr., a lawyer. Of German, Irish, and English ancestry, she was born two months premature. Holmes began her career in teen modeling before transitioning into professional acting. Throughout her career, she has been a subject of public interest regarding her personal life and relationships, including her past engagement to Chris Klein and her marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
