Biography
Kate Elizabeth Winslet is an English actress born on 5 October 1975. Known for portraying headstrong and complicated women in independent films and period dramas, she has received an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. In 2012, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Winslet studied drama at the Redroofs Theatre School. Her first screen appearance occurred at age fifteen in the British television series Dark Season in 1991. She made her film debut in 1994, playing a teenage murderess in Heavenly Creatures. She subsequently won a BAFTA Award for her performance in a role that followed her debut.
