Julie Christie is a British actress born on 14 April in Chabua, Assam, India, to English parents. She moved to England at the age of six and attended boarding school. Christie began her acting career in 1961 with a role in a BBC television series, and the following year secured her first major film part in a romantic comedy. In 1965 she gained international recognition as the model Diana Scott in the film Darling and also portrayed Lara in David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago. Described as a pop icon of the 1960s “swinging London” scene, she has received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her work.
