Julie Bowen Luetkemeyer is an American actress born on March 3, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland. She began her acting career in the 1992 soap opera Loving. In 1994, she played the lead role opposite Paul Rudd in the television film Runaway Daughters. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, she appeared in numerous films, including Happy Gilmore in 1996, An American Werewolf in Paris in 1997, Joe Somebody in 2001, and Kids in America in 2005. She is best known for her television roles, including high school English teacher Carol Vessey on the series Ed, Denise Bauer on Boston Legal, and Claire Dunphy on the sitcom Modern Family.
