Joseph James Dante Jr. is an American filmmaker, producer, editor, and actor born on November 28, 1946, in Morristown, New Jersey. Known primarily for his directing work, his films often combine 1950s-style B movie elements with 1960s radicalism and cartoon comedy. His feature film credits include Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins and its sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Explorers, Innerspace, The Burbs, Matinee, The Second Civil War, Small Soldiers, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. His television and cable credits include the social satire The Second Civil War, episodes of Amazing Stories, and episodes of the anthology series Masters of Horror including Homecoming and The Screwfly Solution.
