Joaquín Cosío was born on 1 January 1962 in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. He began formal actor training in 1983 and continued to develop his craft. In 1994 he wrote his first stage play, Tomochic: Or the Day the World Ended, which received the National Literature Prize. Over his theatrical career he has appeared in more than 50 plays and performed in over 600 live shows, and in 1999 he was hand‑selected for the National Theater Company, prompting a permanent move to Mexico City to work as a full‑time actor. Cosío made his film debut in 2001. He has been nominated four times for the Ariel Awards, winning Best Supporting Actor in 2016 for his role as Gabriel in The Thin Yellow Line.
