Jean-Claude Carrière was a French novelist, screenwriter, and actor born in Colombières-sur-Orb, Hérault, France, on September 17, 1931. He passed away on February 8, 2021, at the age of 89. Known primarily for his writing work with 193 known credits on The Movie Database, Carrière was an alumnus of the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud and served as president of La Fémis, the French state film school that he helped establish. Throughout his career, he received recognition for his screenwriting contributions to cinema, including Academy Award recognition and a César Award for Best Original Screenplay, alongside his work across various other film and literary projects.
