Gérard Darmon is a French-Moroccan actor and singer born in Paris, France on February 29, 1948. Of Sephardic Jewish descent, he was naturalised Moroccan in July 2012 by a decree from King Mohamed VI. He has been nominated twice for the Cesar Award for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Betty Blue in 1987 and Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra in 2003. He was the second husband of actress Mathilda May. He has three children, including Virginie, born in 1968, and with May, daughter Sarah, born on August 17, 1994, and son Jules, born on March 4, 1997. Additionally, Darmon recorded a cover of Mambo Italiano.

Casting director Margot Capelier later hired him in 1973 for a secondary role in Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob, where he interpreted one of the parts.
