Joseph Antonio Cartagena, known by his stage name Fat Joe and also known as Fat Joe da Gangsta, is an American rapper born on August 19, 1970, in The Bronx, New York, USA. He began recording in 1992 as a member of the hip hop group Diggin' in the Crates Crew, and released his debut solo studio album, Represent, the following year in 1993. In the late 1990s, Cartagena formed the hip hop group Terror Squad and its namesake record label. Through this label, he signed fellow New York artists Big Pun, Remy Ma, Tony Sunshine, and Cuban Link, along with then-unknown producers DJ Khaled and Cool & Dre.
