Ethan Jesse Coen is an American filmmaker born on September 21, 1957, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He works with his brother, Joel Coen, and the two are known together as the Coen brothers. Their films span many genres and styles, which they frequently subvert or parody. The brothers generally write, direct, and produce their films jointly. Among their most acclaimed works are Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, True Grit, and Inside Llewyn Davis. Due to regulations, Joel received sole directing credit while Ethan received sole credits in certain capacities. Ethan Coen is also known by the alternate name Roderick Jaynes.
