Biography

Christian Marquand was a French actor, screenwriter, and film director born in Marseille on March 15, 1927. He was born to a Spanish father and an Arab mother, and his sister was film director Nadine Trintignant. Often cast as a heartthrob in French films of the 1950s, Marquand made his first film appearance in 1946 as a footman in Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast. Following several small parts, he appeared prominently in Christian-Jaque's Lucrèce Borgia as one of Lucrezia's lovers and as an Austrian soldier in Luchino Visconti's Senso. In 1956, he was directed by Roger Vadim in And God Created Woman. Marquand died on November 22, 2000, at the age of seventy-three.
