Jean-Louis Xavier Trintignant was a French actor born on December 11, 1930, in Piolenc, Vaucluse, France, and he died on June 17, 2022. He made his theatrical debut in 1951. He is regarded as one of the best French dramatic actors of the post-war era and starred in many classic films of European cinema, working with prominent auteur directors including Roger Vadim, Costa-Gavras, Claude Lelouch, Claude Chabrol, Bernardo Bertolucci, Éric Rohmer, François Truffaut, Krzysztof Kieślowski, and Michael Haneke. He made a critical and commercial breakthrough in And God Created Woman in 1956, followed by a romantic turn in A Man and a Woman in 1966, and The Great Silence in 1968. He won the Silver Bear for Best Actor and was a recipient of the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival and a César Award for best actor.
