Billy Bob Thornton is an American actor, screenwriter, director, and musician who was born on August 4, 1955, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He has 162 known credits on the Movie Database and is also known as Reginald Perry. Thornton gained early recognition as a cast member on the CBS sitcom Hearts Afire and appeared in early 1990s films including On Deadly Ground and Tombstone. In the mid-1990s, he wrote, directed, and starred in the independent film Sling Blade, winning an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. His subsequent major film roles included Armageddon and A Simple Plan in 1998.
