Biography
Barry Dennen was an American actor, singer, and writer who was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 22, 1938, and died on September 26, 2017. He lived in New York City from 1960 to 1963, during which time he had a relationship with Barbra Streisand and helped her develop her nightclub act. He later moved to London for fifteen years. In 1968, he starred as the master of ceremonies in the London version of Cabaret. He played Pontius Pilate on the 1970 album of Jesus Christ Superstar and reprised the role in the 1971 Broadway production. His television appearances included Batman, Wonder Woman, Galtar and the Golden Lance, Tales from the Darkside, and Justice League.

Early in his career in New York City from 1960 to 1963, he had a relationship with Barbra Streisand and lived with her for a year, during which time he helped her develop the nightclub act that launched her successful career as a singer and actress. He also achieved early success as a Shakespearean actor in New York City, appearing on stage in productions such as Henry the Fifth and The Taming of the Shrew.
Dennen later moved to London for fifteen years. In 1968, he landed the starring role of the master of ceremonies in the London version of Cabaret, and he also appeared in a double episode that same year. In 1970, he performed as Pontius Pilate on the album of Jesus Christ Superstar, subsequently playing the same role in the 1971 Broadway production. Also in 1971, he played Mendel in a film by Norman Jewison.
Throughout his career, Dennen played a variety of small parts on American television shows. His television credits included appearances on Batman, Wonder Woman where he portrayed a clone of Adolf Hitler, Galtar and the Golden Lance, Tales from the Darkside, and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. He was also known for his work in films including The Shining, DuckTales, and Titanic. He passed away on September 26, 2017, at the age of seventy-nine.
