Murphy Brown is an American television sitcom created by Diane English. The series stars Candice Bergen as the eponymous Murphy Brown, a famous investigative journalist and news anchor for FYI, a fictional television newsmagazine. Murphy Brown is a recovering alcoholic who returns to FYI after a stay at the Betty Ford Clinic residential treatment center. She is portrayed as one of America's hardest-hitting media personalities, sharp tongued and hard as nails, having shattered many glass ceilings encountered during her career. The series premiered on CBS and follows the personal and professional misadventures of Murphy Brown, an opinionated but beloved woman working as a television journalist. The show features a cast including Candice Bergen, Grant Shaud, Robert Pastorelli, and Faith Ford. Murphy Brown is considered one of the boys in her profession, dominating the FYI news magazine.
