Aasif Hakim Mandviwala, professionally known as Aasif Mandvi, is a British-American actor, comedian, and author. He was born on March 5, 1966, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Mandvi made his television debut playing a doorman at the Miami Biltmore Hotel in the Miami Vice episode titled Line of Fire. In 2006, he auditioned for The Daily Show, was hired immediately, and appeared on the program the same day. He began appearing as an occasional contributing correspondent on August 9, 2006, and was promoted to a regular correspondent on March 12, 2007. During an October 2013 segment on The Daily Show, his interview with Don Yelton resulted in Yelton resigning from the North Carolina Republican Party office.
