Overview

Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. The film stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. The story follows Marty McFly, a teenager living in 1985 who is accidentally sent thirty years into the past. Upon arriving in 1955, Marty inadvertently disrupts the first meeting between his parents. This interference causes his mother to develop a romantic interest in him instead of his father. To ensure his own existence and return to 1985, Marty must repair the damage to history by rekindling his parents' romance. He receives assistance in this endeavor from his eccentric friend and inventor, Doc Brown. The time travel is facilitated by a DeLorean vehicle that serves as a time machine. Marty must race against the clock to resolve these complications before he is permanently stranded in the past.
