According to Europe’s global warming monitor, 2025 is projected to be the world’s second- or third-warmest year on record, matching 2023 and following a record high in 2024.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) confirmed that global temperatures are likely to exceed 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels.
“The only way to mitigate future rising temperatures is to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Samantha Burgess, C3S strategic lead for climate said.
Between January and November 2025, temperatures rose by 1.48 °C on average, according to the monitor’s monthly update.
This data was released after the COP30 climate summit in November, where governments disagreed on major new emissions cuts.
The effects of climate change are evident in this year’s severe weather events, including Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed over 200 people in the Philippines in November.
