now to that massive fire that saw a piece of Richmond history go up in a towering plume of smoke these images of flames devouring the old Trestle Bridge were captured by people looking on in disbelief the smoke so dark so thick cars came to a standstill on the Oak Street Bridge before it was finally shut down some hot spots are still flaring up 12 hours after the industrial fire broke out it was a tough one Crews battled The Blaze through the night today they are looking at what happened Gabriella Panza belany joins us live from the scene what’s the latest Gabriella well as you can see behind me fire crews are still working to spraying hot spots that have still been popping up almost 24 hours after the fire started it’s quiet now but last night this area was plumed in Smoke as the structure behind me burned large black clouds filled the air as the fire raged on until this morning the whole bridge is on fire it’s going to burn till morning these dramatic images from SE doers who got very close to the Flames the massive fire started just after 8 Thursday night me and the family were staying at the river rock we were over uh enjoying the pool activities and stuff and then um before we knew it there was just some big old Dark Cloud of smoke I saw this big fire I’m like um I was just it was just crazy a warehouse and the old marpole rail Bridge were destroyed by The Inferno more than nine Crews battled to put it out until 5: in the morning challenges obviously at night there’s an access uh issue it’s dark it’s dangerous it’s close to the water and the fire was burning really very hot and um it’s difficult to control that kind of a fire even after it was under control a few hot spots continued flaring up later in the day the structure of The Trestle it’s it’s built by Uh Wood um and that wood is uh very old and it’s typically soaked in chemicals of course to preserve it and that uh helps fuel the fire the smoke so black so thick so towering it could be seen across Metro Vancouver some getting too close for comfort others lining up along the Fraser River thing you never see and so the kids were kind of curious and it’s it’s I think they’re going to remember it as fire of 2024 you know the cause is still under investigation but the fire department says it’s exceptionally rare for a structure like The Trestle to catch fire now the good news no one was injured the smoke was so thick last night an air quality advisory was issued by Metro Vancouver now today that advisory was lifted but officials were saying for residents to prepare for to experience more hazy conditions and for the smell of residual smoke to still be in the air now the next steps are for cleaning up debris out of the Fraser River back to you mij Jang thank you Gabriella

Durham Regional Police have announced the results of a major drug and human trafficking investigation more than a 100 charges have been laid against more than 90 suspects as part of project Martini ctv’s Janice Golding with the details what you’re looking at here is just me my own documenting of things that I see every day and trying to change things Andreas leco shows us a long list of complaints and suggestions he’s raised with the city about rampant drug use and crime I have people going to the bathroom outside here and I have to clean it up the downtown oshaa business owner says the city lost its business Improvement area in 2021 because uh the downtown Corp has eroded so badly um I witness things every day that are atrocious you just see activity happening at night that people just kind of shrug their shoulders at a block away at be in tattoo artist B Watkin shares similar sentiments so we got cameras on our building we try our best to make sure that we’re safe on our end but in oshaa you almost have to expect it concerns like these are what prompted Durham Regional Police to launch project Martini for 5 weeks investigators targeted drug trafficking and human trafficking in ashaa Clarington Whitby and Ajax their work resulting in the seizure of about $600,000 worth of street drugs they include three kg of methamphetamine 1 kgr of cocaine 1 kgam of Fentanyl and $30,000 in cash I want to make sure that everybody understands that if you’re going to deal drugs in our city and the region of Durham you are unwelcome beond on that through the course of project Martini drps conducted 11 search warrants arrested 92 people and laid 113 charges police say project Martini also tackled human trafficking this project helped 62 different individuals access public health support programs and an additional 38 individuals to access support programs for sex trade workers area residents and business people say they’re very worried about trafficking in the community I’ve honestly seen it firsthand many times here in ashaa um and you know there will be a girl picked up I’ve seen men men pick up other men you know and then where where have they gone people get picked up all the time and disappear and then you don’t see them ever again I’ve seen it happen several times it’s it’s terrifying I’m stepping over top of bodies every day Andreas laco says he loves his City but not what’s happening to it there’s a direct correlation with a lot of the mental health issues and the drug use with human trafficking and drug use and I just find it all ties into the drugs and he says the vulnerable in the community need more than policing they need more supports Janna scolding CTV News

shocking video tonight of a road rage incident involving a knife all caught on camera the ordeal leaving people who live and work nearby shaken ctv’s Heather Wright with the frightening images the video begins with a great Infinity making a u-turn at an intersection in Toronto on Sunday morning the car stops and two men get out one of them holding a knife the man slashes at the person who is recording the video as people are heard yelling eventually the man walks away after he’s told several times that the police have been called I’m so pissed off I got really really mad nor Mahmud owns the car dealership at the corner where the incident took place that’s not a good for my dealership either like a lot of people that think like you know what that corner is not a great place to shop around for the vehicle today people who live and work in the area surprised to see what happened here over the weekend your reaction when you see that well this is crazy is unbelievable I mean you just like can I never seen these things especially around this area police confirm they are investigating the incident and have arrested 21-year-old rishab barua he has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance it’s really off the rails Tracy Valen cour is a psychologist and says people usually stop aggressive behavior when they know there could be consequences which didn’t IM immediately happened in this case what’s interesting is that he’s being recorded and it still doesn’t deescalate it it’s not until like he keeps reinforcing the point hey I’m calling the police hey you know um you’re you’re being recorded that he’s like oh okay maybe I’ll uh back off it’s not clear what happened here before the camera started rolling but police are asking for the Public’s help in identifying the other man seen in the video he is wanted as part of this investigation have the right TV news Toronto

to A CTV News investigation now into a Paving Company making a name for itself by pretending to be someone else so that the trail angry customers follow lead back to another company that has no idea what is going on now CTV John Woodward reports their impersonation was so effective and may have even tricked police they just destroy your driveway Janu might have said yes to a new driveway but he says a Paving Company never gave him the chance and on May 14th workers ripped his driveway up without his permission no document no any signatures nothing the business card said Royal Town construction and shoe a 62-year-old engineer called them to complain he wasn’t the only one except Royal Town construction supervisor Costa alexopoulos had no idea what they were talking about we’re not there you we were in Bramton doing a parking lot we’re not even anywhere near where you guys are and then it clicked in his business card similar but not identical to the ones the other company had left behind alexopoulos rushed down let me see the Asal tickets he took this video it shows the workers silently scattering they left machines equipment behind and just took off one of those machines left behind this roller Shu called Peele Regional Police and says officers told him they started a fraud investigation because other neighbors had been hit too more than 10 um victims from from this case but a few days later different officers returned Shu said asking about that roller they can be seen on a neighbor’s surveillance camera Shu said he wanted to hold on on to it as collateral for his driveway those two police didn’t know anything about this fraud case the next time the officers returned they weren’t asking Shu was arrested the video shows him being put into a police car as his wife tries to figure out what is happening and while shu is spending 6 hours in jail the video shows the police standing by as the owner of that roller loads it up on a flatbed truck in my 62 years history I didn’t have anything like this I feel that I was badly treated by police PE police say they’re looking into what happened and don’t have all the answers yet but they did confirm that the complainant in the case that resulted in the arrest of Jan Shu was a Paving Company alexop said he never called police about that roller he says his company uses much larger machines he says he still gets multiple calls from customers complaining about another company using his name they’re smart they’re going to use one of the best names to to get the work because they know it’s going to be easy to get it are these guys so good that somehow they’ve even scammed the police well when the police was there and the one pickup and trer they left on site the police ran the plate and told us it’s coming back as unknown alexopoulos wants customers to be wary and if anyone shows up claiming to be royal toown construction to call their office before agreeing to anything as for Shu he’s planning to get his driveway fixed this time by the real Royal toown construction John Woodward CTV News
