Wheel of Fortune 1981

Overview

Wheel of Fortune is an Australian television game show produced by Grundy Television. The program is based on the general format of the original American version of the same name. The series initially aired on the Seven Network from 1981 to 2004, followed by a later run on the same network from November 2005 to July 2006. Following the conclusion of this version, the Nine Network revived the format in 2008 under the title Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune. This revival was cancelled in June 2008. The cancellation of the 2008 iteration followed low ratings and public arguments from long-time host John Burgess regarding his personal dislike of the show. An earlier, unrelated television program also used the title Wheel of Fortune. The series remains a notable example of the adaptation of international game show formats for Australian audiences, spanning multiple decades and networks throughout its history before its final conclusion in the mid-2000s.
