In the ninth episode of the first season, the narrative splits between two distinct locations and concerns. The episode portrays the villagers’ reliance on traditional belief and ritual as a coping mechanism for the health emergency they face.

Both storylines emphasize the themes of leadership and the search for solutions in moments of conflict, whether the conflict is territorial or medical. Ragnar’s diplomatic mission in Götaland underscores his emerging status as a negotiator beyond the battlefield, while Lagertha’s involvement in the religious response to the sickness highlights her continued influence within Kattegat.
