In the thirteenth episode of The Vampire Diaries' fourth season, an expedition is led to a desolate island off the coast of Nova Scotia. The group's goal is to uncover the secret of the cure, which is believed to be hidden on the island.

During the trek to the island's interior, tensions arise between two members of the group. They engage in a bitter rivalry, while another member attempts to maintain peace. A third member expresses concerns that the expedition's leader may be leading them into a trap.

Meanwhile, two other characters are trying to decipher a message. They are focused on understanding the significance of the Hunter's mark. The expedition's leader begins to reveal more about the legend of Silas and a witch named Qetsiyah. He also shares his personal history.

Back in Mystic Falls, a confrontation takes place between two characters. The violence that follows involves a third character.
