Overview

The Revenant is a 2015 American epic Western action drama film directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu. The screenplay, written by Mark L. Smith and Inarritu, is based in part on the 2002 novel by Michael Punke. The film is a semi-biographical work inspired by the experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass during an 1823 expedition in Montana and South Dakota. The plot follows Glass as he participates in a fur trading expedition during the 1820s. After being mauled by a bear, he is left for dead by members of his own hunting team. Following this betrayal, the frontiersman sets out on a path of vengeance against those who abandoned him. The film features a cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domhnall Gleeson.
