Overview

The Peripheral is an American science fiction television series created by Scott B. Smith. Produced by Amazon, the show is loosely based on the 2014 book written by William Gibson. The series features executive producers Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, Athena Wickham, Steve Hoban, and Vincenzo Natali. The cast includes Chloë Grace Moretz, Gary Carr, Jack Reynor, and JJ Feild. The story follows a young woman living in a small Appalachian town who finds escape through playing advanced video games. After a company sends her a new system to test, she discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality and a dark future. This technology, which initially seems like a game, unlocks her dreams of finding purpose, romance, and glamour. However, the experience ultimately places both the protagonist and her family in real danger. Set in a future where technology has subtly altered society, the series explores the consequences of these connections. The first season is available to stream on Prime Video.
