Overview

The New Godfathers is a 1979 Italian poliziottesco film directed by Alfonso Brescia, also known by the Italian title I contrabbandieri di Santa Lucia. The film stars Mario Merola as Don Francesco Antiero, Antonio Sabato as Don Michele Vizzini, Gianni Garko as Capitano Ivano Radovich, and Jeff Blynn as Don Salvatore Gargiulo, alongside a supporting cast that includes Edmund Purdom, Sabrina Siani, Lorraine De Selle, Rik Battaglia, and Andrea Aureli. The story begins when a revolution in Iran halts a heroin shipment, leaving an alliance of crime families determined to get the drugs to the United States. To accomplish this, they decide to run the drugs through an unsuspecting network of good-natured, local smugglers in Naples, while an international anti-narcotics agent rushes to shut down their operation. As the smuggling scheme unfolds undercovered from Iran and Turkey to the port of Naples, a series of betrayals and divided loyalties eventually lead to a final, bloody confrontation in America.
