Overview

The Legend of the Condor Heroes is a Hong Kong wuxia television series adapted from the novel of the same title by the writer Jin Yong, also known as Louis Cha. The production was first broadcast on TVB Jade in Hong Kong in 1983. Comprising 59 episodes, the series is divided into three parts. It is set during the late Song Dynasty in the 12th century. The narrative follows the adventures of the characters Kwok Ching and Wong Yung, whose journey involves defending the Han Dynasty against a Mongolian invasion. This 1983 version is widely regarded as a classic adaptation of the source material. It features the breakthrough role of Barbara Yung, who portrayed the character Huang Rong. Following its initial release, the series was subsequently re-aired in 1990, 1995-1996, 2012-2013, and 2024. The story serves as the first entry in the Condor Trilogy, which is followed by The Return of the Condor Heroes. The cast includes Stephen Chow, Wah Yuen, Man-Tat Ng, and Shih Kien.
