The Golden Touch is a Walt Disney produced Silly Symphonies animated short film released in 1935 that falls into the animation and comedy genres. Based on the Greek myth of King Midas, the story is updated into a medieval setting and serves as a fable of a king whose touch turns everything to gold.
In the film, King Midas is visited by an elf who turns his cat to gold, then claps his hands to change it back. Midas begs for the golden touch, and despite the elf warning him that it would be a curse, Midas insists. He dances about joyfully at first, but soon discovers the drawbacks when he sits down to dinner. Fearing death by starvation, he summons the elf and agrees to surrender everything he owns to have the curse lifted. The United States release date for the ten-minute short film was March 22, 1935.
