In the film, a man named McCall believes he has left his mysterious past behind him to begin a new and quiet life. However, after meeting a young girl named Teri who is controlled by ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he feels he cannot stand idly by and must help her. Utilizing hidden skills that enable him to serve vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall ends his self-imposed retirement and awakens his desire for justice. Whenever someone has a problem, faces stacked odds, or has nowhere else to turn, McCall steps in to help as The Equalizer.
