The Count of Monte Cristo is a 1956 television series produced by ITC Entertainment/TPA. The series is an adaptation of the novel by Alexandre Dumas, adapted very loosely by Sidney Marshall. It premiered in the UK in early 1956 and was produced in collaboration with the United States. The series was filmed at two different locations, with the first twelve episodes shot at the Hal Roach studios and the rest produced at ITC's traditional home of Elstree. The series ran for a total of thirty-nine thirty-minute episodes, which were later released on a 5-disc DVD set in 2010. ITC also produced a film based on the same source material in 1975.
