The Bounty Hunter is a 1989 American neo-Western action film starring, co-written, and directed by Robert Ginty in his directorial debut. The film co-stars Bo Hopkins, Loeta Waterdown, and Melvin Holt. The story follows an ex-cop turned bounty hunter who arrives in a small town ostensibly looking for a man who has jumped bail. However, the real reason he is there is to avenge his old friend, a local Indian who was murdered by the cruel local sheriff. The sheriff is trying to get the Indians to sell their land cheaply so an oil company can move in and take over the land, which they believe sits on top of large reserves of oil. Ginty plays the bounty hunter, who joins the struggle of Choctaw Indians against the sheriff, played by Hopkins. Released in the United States on August 27, 1989, the crime and action film has a runtime of one hour and thirty minutes.
