Overview
Tarzan Escapes is a film released on November 6, 1936, that is based on the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is the third film in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Tarzan series to star Johnny Weissmuller in the role of the King of the Apes. The film was directed by Richard Thorpe, with additional uncredited or credited work by John Farrow, James C. McKay, George B. Seitz, and William A. Wellman, and features a screenplay written by Cyril Hume. In the plot of the film, a white hunter named Captain Fry attempts to take Tarzan back to civilization so that he can be caged for public display. Captain Fry arrives in the jungle accompanied by Jane cousins, Eric and Rita, who are seeking Jane help in order to claim an inheritance left to her. An expedition that is seeking to bring Jane back to civilization and place Tarzan into captivity ultimately gets more than it bargained for.
