The narrative follows two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. As children, the brothers lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Following this event, their father raised them to be soldiers, teaching them about the paranormal evil that exists in the dark corners and on the back roads of America and how to combat it.
At the start of the series, Sam has moved away from this life, pursuing law school in search of safety and normalcy. His plans change when his estranged brother, Dean, arrives with news that their father has disappeared after hunting evil for 22 years. To locate their father, Sam is forced to return to the life he attempted to leave behind. The brothers must hunt the same terrifying, unearthly, and demented entities that their father pursued. The series is defined by the mission of saving people and hunting things, which the brothers refer to as the family business. The show ran for 15 seasons between 2005 and 2020.
