Overview

Superb Song of the Valkyries: Symphogear is a Japanese anime television series produced by Satelight. The show's first season premiered in 2012. The story begins during a concert by the idol group Zwei Wing, which is attacked by an alien force called the Noise. Members Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amou attempt to suppress the threat using their Symphogear armor. Though they fight hard, innocent bystander Hibiki Tachibana is critically injured. Kanade sacrifices herself to save Hibiki. Two years later, Hibiki continues to live while Tsubasa fights the Noise alone. As the threat grows, Hibiki encounters the Noise again and gains a chance to become attuned with the Symphogear system herself. The title refers to the concept of a valkyrie's song, with "superb" indicating its extraordinary nature. The series combines elements of music, science fiction, and action.
