The television series Stellvia of the Universe is set in a future time period. A significant event occurred in 2167 AD when a powerful electromagnetic shockwave devastated the area. This shockwave was caused by a nearby star going supernova, with the star being 20 light-years away. The series takes place 189 years after this event, in the year 2356 AD. At this point in time, civilization has been rebuilt and humanity has united. The unification of humanity is in response to an anticipated second shockwave from the supernova. This second shockwave is expected to contain a great deal of matter from the remnants of the star. The series is based in this rebuilt civilization, where humanity is preparing to face the coming shockwave. The setting of the series is a result of the devastating event and the subsequent rebuilding of society.
