Overview
Shōgun is a historical drama television series that premiered in 2024, created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. The show is based on James Clavell's 1975 novel of the same name, which was previously adapted into a 1980 miniseries. Set in Japan in the year 1600, the series takes place at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. The story follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him. His fortunes begin to shift when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby Japanese fishing village. The series stars Cosmo Jarvis, Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Tadanobu Asano. It airs on FX and is available for streaming on Disney+. A second season is in development.
