Overview

The television series Sherlock Holmes was the first American television series of Sherlock Holmes adventures and it aired in syndication in the fall of 1954. The series consisted of 39 half-hour episodes, with mostly original stories. Sheldon Reynolds was the producer of the series, which was filmed in France by Guild Films. Ronald Howard played the role of Holmes, while Howard Marion Crawford portrayed Watson. Archie Duncan appeared in many episodes as Inspector Lestrade and Richard Larke, also known as Kenneth Richards, played Sgt. Wilkins in several episodes. The series had an associate producer, Nicole Milinaire, who was one of the first women to attain a senior production role in a television series. The series brought the classic Sherlock Holmes stories to life in a new format for American audiences. The production team worked together to create the episodes, with filming taking place in France.
