Overview

Shameless is a British comedy-drama television series created and executive produced by Paul Abbott. The program aired from 2004 to 2013 and is set on the fictional Chatsworth council estate in Manchester. The narrative follows a group of siblings who have been largely abandoned by their parents and must rely on their wits and humor to survive in their rough environment. The family is led by their alcoholic father, Frank Gallagher, who is portrayed by David Threlfall. The series explores their unconventional family life, including the perspective of a bright fifteen-year-old struggling to come of age while dealing with a belligerent father, a closeted brother, and a psychotic sister. The family dynamics shift when Steve, a middle-class young man, falls for the oldest sibling, Fiona, and becomes increasingly involved with the household. Produced by Company Pictures, the show features a large ensemble cast. The British production later served as the basis for an American adaptation developed by John Wells that aired on Showtime beginning in 2011.
