Samurai Gourmet is a Japanese-language television series that premiered on Netflix in 2017. Created by Masayuki Kusumi, the drama is based on his essay and a manga of the same title. The series consists of twelve episodes, each with a duration of approximately twenty minutes. The story follows a sixty-year-old retired salaryman named Takeshi who seeks to find a new purpose in life. After leaving his professional career, Takeshi begins to explore the food available in his neighborhood. He rediscovers his passion for life by getting in touch with his inner warrior, a fantasy samurai companion who inspires him to eat what he truly desires and to experience this new chapter of his life with boldness. The cast includes Naoto Takenaka, Tetsuji Tamayama, Honami Suzuki, and Hiroki Hayashi. Classified as a food and life genre program, the series is rated for all ages.
