Overview

Rio is a 2011 animated film centered on a domesticated macaw named Blu who resides in Minnesota with his human companion, Linda. As a hatchling, Blu was captured by smugglers and consequently never learned how to fly. Although he lives a content life, he is believed to be the final member of his species. The narrative shifts when news arrives that a lone female macaw named Jewel lives in Rio de Janeiro. Hoping to preserve the species, Blu and Linda travel to Brazil to meet her. Upon their arrival, the situation turns dangerous when animal smugglers kidnap both Blu and Jewel. The two birds manage to escape their captors and must navigate a perilous journey to regain their freedom. Throughout this adventure, their primary goal is to reunite with Linda. The film follows the pair as they overcome the obstacles presented by their environment and their kidnappers while attempting to return home.
