Overview

Rake is an Australian television series produced by Essential Media and Entertainment for ABC TV. The drama and comedy series stars Richard Roxburgh as Cleaver Greene, a brilliant but self-destructive Sydney barrister who defends usually guilty clients. Cleaver Greene is not about politics, morality, or even justice, but rather is about the law. Driven by a passion for the law, he uses his formidable intelligence and encyclopedic knowledge of human nature and legal codes to defend people whom society and the justice system might otherwise convict without a fair trial, guaranteeing they receive a diligent defense. The character is loosely based on Charles Waterstreet, one of Sydney's most colorful barristers who is also an author and co-creator of the show. Both the fictional Greene and Waterstreet hold a Bachelor of Law from the University of New South Wales. The series aired for five seasons from 4 November 2010 to 7 October 20.
