Pebble Mill at One was a British lunchtime magazine programme that aired live on BBC 1 each weekday at 13:00. The series began on 2 October 1972 and ran continuously until 23 May 1986; it was later revived from 14 October 1991 to 29 March 1996. Production took place at the Pebble Mill studios of BBC Birmingham, but rather than using a conventional studio the show was presented from the centre’s main foyer, allowing studio visitors to be seen arriving in the background as the broadcast began. The unusual location resulted from the fact that a planned third studio was never built and the existing facilities were fully booked for network drama production and local news.
