Overview

Parasite is a South Korean thriller and black-comedy film directed by Bong Joon Ho. The film centers on the unemployed Kim family, who become intrigued by the wealthy Park family as a means of improving their own circumstances. One by one, the Kims ingeniously insert themselves into the Parks’ household staff, establishing a seemingly beneficial relationship between the two families. However, underlying tensions surrounding class and greed gradually surface, leading to unforeseen complications. The film premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it made history as the first Korean film to win the Palme d'Or. It was later released in South Korea by CJ Entertainment, eventually earning over $258 million worldwide. Parasite received widespread critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, performances, editing, and production design. It went on to become the first foreign-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The film features a cast that includes Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Choi Woo-sik.
