Overview

Open Secrets is a documentary film released in Canada in 2004. The film has a runtime of fifty-two minutes and carries a rating of 14A. The documentary uncovers a lost chapter in Canadian military history by exploring how the Armed Forces dealt with homosexual behavior among soldiers during and after World War II. More than sixty years later, a group of five veterans who were barely adults when they enlisted break the silence to discuss how homosexual behavior was considered even more unmentionable than cancer. Amidst the brutality of war, instances of sexual awakening occurred among soldiers and officers. Initially, the Army overlooked these occurrences, but as the conflict advanced, the military began to crack down through measures that included military tribunals and threats of imprisonment.
