Number 96 is an Australian soap opera that aired from 1972 until 1977. Set in a Sydney apartment block, the series was produced by Don Cash and Bill Harmon for Network Ten. The network requested a serial similar to Coronation Street that explored adult subjects. David Sale devised the original premise, story outlines, and characters, while also serving as the script editor and writer for the initial episodes. The show achieved significant success and was noted for its comedy characters, as well as its inclusion of nudity and sex scenes, which were considered risque for the period. The popularity of the program led to the production of a feature film version in December 1973.
