In the television series NCIS, the Major Case Response Team investigates criminal cases connected to United States Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families. The series follows a team of special agents who handle matters ranging from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines.

In season thirteen, episode eighteen, titled Scope, the NCIS team re-examines an ambush that targeted a group of Special Ops snipers in Iraq. This renewed investigation is triggered after an American couple is subsequently attacked in that exact same area six months later.

The television series itself was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, originating from two back-door pilot episodes of the series JAG that aired in April 2003. The mothership series focuses on its core investigative unit and features an ensemble cast that includes Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo, and Sasha Alexander as Caitlin Todd during the first season. Over the course of its long-running broadcast history on CBS, the program has incorporated numerous cast members across its multi-season run, with actors such as Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Rocky Carroll appearing across various stages of the show. The program continues to follow the operations of the Major Case Response Team as they handle complex military-related criminal investigations.
