The television series NCIS follows the Major Case Response Team of the NCIS as they investigate criminal cases connected to United States Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families. The mother ship series originated as two backdoor pilot episodes of an existing show, JAG, that aired in April 2003, and was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill.

During the course of the series, season twelve, episode ten, titled House Rules, features a specific case synopsis. In this episode, the NCIS team consults with three cyber-terrorists whom they had imprisoned following a city-wide Internet shutdown that occurred the week before Christmas.

The overarching premise of the series centers on this specialized team tackling a variety of high-stakes investigations. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, the team of special agents investigates matters involving military personnel and their families. Over its long-running broadcast history, the program has featured numerous cast members, including Sean Murray, David McCallum, Mark Harmon, Brian Dietzen, and Pauley Perrette, with characters like Abby, alongside recurring and regular personnel who have contributed to the production through its many seasons on the network.
