McMillan and Wife is a lighthearted American police procedural that aired on NBC from September 17, 1971, to April 24, 1977. The series starred Rock Hudson as San Francisco Police Commissioner Stewart McMillan and Susan Saint James as his wife, who assisted him as an amateur detective. Created by Leonard Stern, the program featured additional cast members including John Schuck and Nancy Walker. The show was the first element created specifically for the NBC Mystery Movie wheel series, appearing in 90-minute episodes in rotation with Columbo and McCloud. While the series initially aired on Wednesday nights, the program moved to a Sunday schedule during its second season, where it remained for the duration of its run. From 1976 to 1977, the show was known simply as McMillan. The premise focused on the couple as they navigated their marriage while working to solve various crimes within the city. The production was associated with Universal Television throughout its broadcast history on the NBC network.
