Overview

Matilda is a 1996 American fantasy comedy film based on Roald Dahl's 1988 novel Matilda, starring Mara Wilson as Matilda Wormwood. Matilda Wormwood is a brilliant and intelligent little girl, but unfortunately, her parents, Harry and Zinnia, fail to see that fact and misunderstand her. As time passes, she finally starts school and encounters a kind teacher, loyal friends, and a terrifying, sadistic headmistress. Fed up with the constant cruelty and mistreatment, the gifted young girl discovers she has a special gift and newly discovered powers. She just might be able to use these powers to stand up for herself and her fellow classmates, and to outwit the unruly adults around her. Later, Miss Honey adopts Matilda. The film was released in the United States on August 2, 1996, with a runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes, and is rated PG.
