Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a 2008 American computer-animated adventure comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation SKG and Pacific Data Images. It serves as the second installment in the Madagascar film series and is the sequel to the 2005 production. The film was directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Etan Cohen. In this story, the characters Alex and Marty, along with other zoo animals, attempt to leave Madagascar by utilizing a wrecked airplane reassembled by the penguins. The repaired craft remains airborne long enough to reach the African continent. Upon arrival, the animals from New York encounter members of their own species for the first time. As they navigate the wild environment of Africa, the group begins to question whether their new surroundings are preferable to their original home in the Central Park Zoo. The film has a runtime of one hour and twenty-nine minutes and is classified as a PG-rated feature.
